Batman - Thank You
I have friends that look at me funny when I say, “thank you” to the waiter when they fill our water glasses or why I tell the waiters “thank you for a good meal”. There have been conversations about it and my response is always the same, “It’s just good manners. Everyone deserves to receive good manners.” As a teacher I love it when my students say “thank you” for the math quiz or the paint I put on their tables. It’s just good manners.
Thank You
Zatanna: “Is there anything you can’t do?”
Batman: “There’s one thing I’ve never been very good at…Saying thank you”*
Bruce Wayne lost both his parents in one night. A criminal took their lives in a dark alley. He was instantly catapulted to wealth beyond belief but that did not ease his guilt or suffering. Instead, as he grew into manhood he created a dark menacing figure, Batman, to battle crime in Gotham City. He realizes that things can change instantly. Bruce Wayne / Batman never takes for granted that he will always have a home, wealth, friends, or even help when needed. He stands on his on two feet taking care of him self. Batman stands strong never weakening in the face of disaster or change.
Two very simple words – “Thank you” but why are they so hard to say? Is it a sign of weakness to say them? Is it a sign that we may need help? Is it a sign someone might be better? That is pure silliness! It is good manners to say “Thank you.” Teachers, Secretaries, Receptionists and Cashiers love to hear those simple little words. These very same people will remember those words and the feeling they bring for the next person they meet. Bruce Wayne, the big bad dark knight, Batman can afford to be rude and insensitive. Let it be hard for him to say “Thank you” but for the everyday people, like us, it’s easy. Just say “Thank you” often. By the way, in time its gets easier to say.
